The fellowship aims to facilitate conversations among the many organizations actively working to preserve a free and open internet. The program is an intitiative of the United States Mission to the United Nations in Geneva working with a group of core partners including digital communications expert John Horniblow; the Geneva based NGO gMedia Center which works to empower media to further civil society goals; and Meridian International Center, a Washington D.C. based NGO promoting international understanding through exchange programs.
